In order to implement higher prices for foreigners you will have to check IDs to determine who is a citizen/permanent resident and who is NOT. So, ID checking for ALL will have to be instituted. That will add SIGNIFICANT DELAYS -- & hence the chaos. There will be long lines & frayed tempers.
I am ALREADY FAMILIAR with having to SHOW MY ID at National Parks.
Why? Because I have a Senior Lifetime Pass. Even though there is NO PICTURE of it, & my name -- handwritten by ME, in ink is SMUDGED -- they still go through the palava of checking my pass against an ID & entering it into 'the system'. This takes a few minutes. I don't get waved through the entrance gates.
Now they will have to do this for ALL vehicles.
Why? To make sure foreigners are NOT using fraudulently obtained passes.
What do I mean by that -- i.e., getting a local (for a small fee) to buy a pass for them using their ID.
Plus, Acadia will have to replace or do away with all their automated, ATM-like ticket/pass dispensing machines. They do NOT have a means for checking ID.
I am sure you can get machines that can check IDs but they will be expensive.
Not sure they can do this by 2026, i.e., next year.
This will not be funny.
I am sure NPS will ask for it to be delayed ...
😇
