I am BLESSED to have it ALL, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, prediabetes, poor eyes, etc. etc. This has been my life for the last 30-years, if not more.
So, I am on a TON of medication. I take a huge handful every night, & have done so for close on 30 years. Thanks to all that medication I can keep some of my issues under control.
I have been taking 3 different types of blood pressure medication, nightly, for 27 years. The same doses. Never changed.
27-years ago I was 30 pounds heavier and not very fit.
Now, thanks to my prediabetes I am slightly lighter (though still borderline OBESE) & slightly fitter. But, nowhere close to where I should be. I need to lose about another 20lbs!
But, of late BP has been falling and my heart rate drops to below 48 bpm. This sometimes makes me unbalanced especially if I am hiking mountains (as in Acadia).
My PCP told me awhile ago to stop ALL three of my BP Rx cold-turkey. I told him I was not comfortable doing that, & stayed on what I had always been taking.
Last week, after nearly falling off a cliff, I asked whether I could reduce my BP Rxs by half.
He e-mails me, at once, to tell me to cut two by HALF but to stop, AT ONCE, the Toprol XL.
Without Googling, I knew that that didn't seem the right thing to do.
So, I didn't STOP, I also reduced that by half.
He didn't call in any new scripts, just told me to SPLIT the pills I had. So, I had the pills. Just split them.
After a few days, on a hunch, I Googled. I found the above!
I had been on Toprol XL 100mg for 27-years.
Stopping it cold-turkey probably wasn't a good thing.
He then agreed that YES maybe I should take 50mg.
Hhhhmmmm.
And people wonder why I don't trust doctors.
I have had too many that have tried to kill me. That is why. 😇
