After 40-years of being a rabid Beaujolais Nouveau Day fanatic I gave up on it in 2022. It is not much fun in the U.S. -- especially in rural New Hampshire. Nobody has heard of it, nobody understands it. I tried to educate folks ... I wrote yearly reviews ... but all to no avail.
The final straw was in 2022. The damn, pompous 'New Hampshire Liquor Commission' curtailed the number of stores that would get that years supply. None were available north of Manchester. I went to three. I was foiled. IF I don't drink it on Beaujolais Nouveau Day, i.e., 3rd Thursday of each November (in other words the Thursday BEFORE Thanksgiving) there is no point -- whatsoever. That is what it is all about. Drinking it on the day it is made available.
So my 40+ year streak got broken in 2022. Damn.
I didn't even bother to look last year.
I wasn't looking this year either, but I happened to visit a liquor store yesterday to get some wine. Happened to see this (🔝) and it cracked me up. I was, through habit, going to get one when I noticed the SCREW TOP! Screw that for a game of soldiers. No cork. Come on. And $14.99.
It has been going up by a $1 each year. I will not pay $14.99 for Beaujolais Nouveau -- which by definition tends to be rough. That is kind of the point. 'Georges Duboeuf' just being greedy.
So, that is that. I can't say I miss it. Plus, I have majorly cut back on my wine consumption now that I am pre-diabetic. 😇
