This, for the pope, should be a no-brainer. But, in my eyes, therein lies the problem. I don't want to be unduly mean or rude, but we have to face facts. Pope Francis, soon to be 88, isn't doing that great. I think he is barely hanging on. He and Joe Biden are in the same boat. Way past their 'sell by' date.
Well, the pope does LUCKILY have a very competent Acting Pope -- his friend, cahoot, and partner-in-sin, Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández. Victor, alas has a wicked sense of humor. He likes to stoke mischief. So he might let this go -- meaning NOT pardon the tree. People will think it was the pope, but the pope would remain clueless.

There is a very simple solution. They should go with a HYBRID tree; i.e., a big tree made together by lashing small trees together. That way everybody can be happy.
