I loved it. But, it was like it was tailor-made for me. SMILE. British, set in the 1970s & somehow shot very much in the 1970s 'style'. The feel & texture of this lovely, heartwarming movie is very much in the mold of the original 'All Creatures Great and Small' TV series.
I lived in England in the 1970s. I remember the excitement about the first Test Tube baby. I, however, do not recall the controversy ahead of that. To be fair, I was busy. I graduated (with my first degree) in 1974 & was busy trying to forge a career.
In the early 1980s I did a lot of driving in and around Yorkshire. So, many of the scenes in this movie were nostalgic.
Of course this movie, about the birth of IVF is super topical. Will make you think. Never really, till now, appreciated how complicated it is. To be honest, I still can't grapple with how smalls the cells are -- & I know that the female egg is the largest of human cells.
A movie worth watching. Lot of droll British humor. Extremely good acting. Brilliantly produced. Yes, it will not (like most movies) be for everyone. Mainly for those that appreciate complicated human drama.
Well, I am glad I watched. I will recommend it, but check the trailer (above). I don't want to get blamed if you didn't like it as much as I did. 😇
