As an ex-programmer (who started programming (on paper-tape) in 1969) I fully understand the need for reserved names. I just didn't expect that 'Excel' would have one as basic & for some, essential, such as 'History'! Caught me totally by surprise.
I am a historian, so it is inevitable that I might need to create a NEW PAGE in an existing Spreadsheet that was called 'History'. That is exactly what happened.
I have a very detailed & still evolving & growing Excel Spreadsheet on all the U.S. National Parks. It already has about 12 pages (multi-page Excels my love & forte).
So last week I wanted to start a new page to tabulate the history of one of those Parks. [Have a guess.]
Created it & went to name it ... 'History'.
Told me I couldn't & that it was a Reserved Name. I thought I had made some kind of mistake. Tried again, & again.
Nope. Now I was getting a tad frustrated. I quickly Google it. BINGO. I basically found the above (i.e., images above).
'History' was INDEED a reserved word. I was floored. Not fair. Not cricket. Couldn't they have gone with something less common & esoteric like 'Hi$tory', 'h_istory', or 'ToryHis'.
Not the end of the world. I can live with it. Just unexpected & annoying. 😇
