The New Funeral Rites For Popes, Sanctioned By Pope Francis, Only Available As An Expensive Book -- In Italian.
So these rites, known as 'Ordo Exsequiarum Romani Pontificis' (Rites of Burial for the Roman Pontiff), have always (or at least for the last 120+ years) been made available in such book form. It just seems incongruous.
Conclave protocols/rites -- & the updates to them -- are readily available, for free at the Vatican Website as documents issued by a pope. Well, as it happens, this 'Ordo' (and a few others' are not works of a pope. Instead they are documents prepared by a Curial dicastery -- in this case 'Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff'. They are the ones that publish (& release) it via the Vatican Press.
Just seems odd.
Would be much better if like the conclave documents it was freely available as a papal document -- translated into all the major languages. Alas it is not.
I don't think the Vatican or the Pope expect this book to be another bestseller.
Rather limited market.
I certainly don't plan to buy it -- primarily because it is in Italian.
So I am just letting you know. OK? 😇
