I saw this story today on Facebook. Lot of people were asking the same two questions: a 75-year old & at 4:45am in the morning. It would have been pitch black.

I know exactly what he did based on the reporting. He drove straight onto the lake at 'Ikles Point' boat ramp. I know it well. Visit it often. Yes, straight shot into the water -- though the last few yards would be rocky (though the rocks might have been covered over with snow/ice). Easy enough to do in the dark. BUT the turning is WELL MARKED.

So what the heck was he doing? At that time of night? STRANGE. Very strange.
