I did NOT read it. I listened to it, transfixed and tantalized, on 'Audible' for well over 20 hours! Yes, the book is just over 14+ hours, but I like to REWIND OFTEN & relisten to chapters. Ditto, when reading. I am a SLOW reader & now a slow Audible listener. I like to SAVOR books ... the words ... the writing.
As ever I was late to the party when it comes to this book.
I don't follow book clubs or book trends. Just grab whatever strikes my fancy when I am browsing the Audible catalogs (& the plural is intentional). I just looked it up. I did PURCHASE this title. I wasn't sure whether I got it, instead, for free from the 'Plus Catalog'.
Wow. What a story. Started off kind of unpromising. I was a tad skeptical. But then ... BANG.
Very complicated & convoluted and that, of course, is the beauty. Amazing amount of detail and color on a diverse range of topics from bees/beekeeping to fancy wines. I take my hat off, differentially, to Mr. Whitaker. You, Sir, are quite the writer. I am in awe. Thank you.
Well, the book is a runaway bestseller & there are, as you can see, close to 50,000 REVIEWS of it on Amazon. So, what can I add? Nothing other than that I enjoyed it & want to recommend it.

Something that crosses my mind often these days when I am listening to a book. Is the book better in AUDIO or PRINT? Of course, that depends on the skill of the narrator. This book was EXPERTLY narrated by a single narrator. He was GOOD. That made a huge difference.
I wish I could answer that question, i.e., would I have enjoyed it even MORE if I had read it.
I don't know. If I had the book I could have gone back & checked some stuff. Hard to do that with an audiobook. That I realize & know. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this book.
I highly recommend it. Cheers.
