Yes, I once used to be a (world) expert on APPN. Yikes.
APPN was the last-gasp iteration of 'SNA' ('Systems Network Architecture') -- & I was the uncontested 'Mr. SNA' for nearly 25+ years.
For 20 years I used to teach & write about SNA (& then APPN). It was SNA that allowed to me to have the life I did -- & still have.
I wasn't sure whether I had any of my APPN course material around. This was 30 years ago. But, I had a hunch I had one copy somewhere. Took me awhile to remember where to look. I was delighted to be able to find a copy (above).
I had a quick glance through it. I was APPALLED! Wow. Talk about stone age compared to where we are now in terms of networking. I was embarrassed. Those days we thought this stuff was the cat's whiskers. Boy, were we naive and stupid. It was painful. Yikes.
Well, it appears -- & it makes me shudder -- that there are still some folks using APPN. That is ludicrous. That is frightening. I have a hunch that it might be the U.S. Federal Government! Yikes. Wow.
Scary.
