Took me a little while to come to terms with it. Then it HIT ME. Wow. Stunning & HAUNTING.
A 'living' (maybe 'organic' might be a better word) sculpture springing out, quite literally, from the ground.
It was COLD, windy & with snow squalls. I had the whole PLACE all to myself. That made it even more special -- & haunting.
It had come up a number of times on 'Google Maps' -- albeit stating that it was closed.
It is between 'Woodstock' (where the festival DID NOT happen) & 'Saugerties'. It is out in the woods, but well sign posted. I drove by a sign & that got me THINKING.
I had seen it on Maps. So, I turned around & went looking for it. Easy enough to find. The GATES were closed & there were signs saying that it was closed until May.
BUT, there were NO, 'No Trespassing' or 'Keep Out' signs. I ALWAYS obey those. Know better than to trespass. It appeared that they were OK with folks WALKING the grounds in the winter. That is fairly common in that area (& of course, New England).
So, I parked the car, off the road & set off. Some ice on the road. There was ONE car inside the locked property BUT I never saw anyone else. I am sure I was on camera. But, I tend to be a 'good boy'. I respect the land I amble on & I am grateful that the owners let me do so.
I was impressed. The setting with the 'Catskill' mountains in the back is stunning. The weather was against me. I was FIGHTING it, so that got in the way. I MIGHT HAVE TO GO BACK!
