As of 1971, 'Memorial Day' has always been on the LAST MONDAY of May.
Hence, May 26 this year (i.e., 2025).
Last time it fell on May 26 was 11-years ago, i.e., 2014.
11-year gaps between specific days of the year are fairly COMMON. It has to do with us having 7 days in a week -- and Leap Years occuring every 4-years. 7+4 = 11. Hence, 11-year gaps.
The last day of May can fall BETWEEN May 25 & May 31.
So, May 26 is close to the early side.
But we have had May 26th Memorial Days in 2014, 2008, 2003, 1997, 1886, 1980 & 1975.
So it is not unusual.
Prior to 1971, it was called ‘Decoration Day’ & always held on May 30, irrespective of what day of the week it was.
In 1971 it became Memorial Day.

While we are at it, let me please REMIND you what Memorial Day is all about:
"Memorial Day is for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces."
Nothing more. Nothing less.
It is NOT for all that served.
We have "Veterans Day" for that.
