Last year (i.e., 2014) we had the first Scottish 'Highland Games' at 'The Fort at No. 4' in 'Charlestown', NH.
I was EXCITED. I love Highland Games. I have been to AT LEAST 20 Games at 'Loon' (& 'Warner' (when they moved for a few years)). The Games at Loon, now in their 50-year, had become 'old' & exorbitant. I wanted an alternative. And here it was! Wow.
Though I had lived in NH for nearly 40-years (& was a CERTIFIED 'Granite State Ambassador' authorized to work at all State INFO booths) I had NEVER heard of it. I had to look it up. It was on the other side of the State. That was OK. I was excited.
The weather did not corporate. It was a wet day, with intermittent rain. BUT, I got up early & went.
The weather forecast, alas, was right.
It did NOT rain all day, but we had some rain. But we also had bursts of fleeting sun.
I stayed for the whole day -- though they closed kind of early, around 4pm, because of the weather.
I had fun. I go to the Games for the MUSIC. These Games were a bit LIGHT on the MUSIC, the emphasis, per the name, being on the Games. But it was still good.
As always GREAT PEOPLE. Great camaraderie. I had a ball. < Did I already say that? >
'They' signed a TREATY committing to future games. I was excited. No mountains like at Loon, but an interesting setting.
So, a couple of weeks ago I went looking to see when the 2025 Games were going to be held.
There was nothing on the Web.
So, I contacted a few people. I got the scoop.
NO GAMES, at The Fort, in 2025.
That is ALL I have to report & say.
I am just disappointed.
Great venue.
We needed an ALTERNATIVE to Loon. Well, alas NOT in 2025. As it happens this will be Loon's 50th anniversary! I was there for the 25th. Wow. That was, amazingly, 25-years ago.
Well, just letting you know.
Cheers. 😇
