That was the clearest map I could find.

I am SHOCKED that we (i.e., New Hampshire) is doing AWAY with annual vehicle safety inspections as of February 2026. I never thought it would happen.
I have lived in New Hampshire for 39 years. I cannot remember a time when we didn't need safety inspections. [Yes, I tried to find when they were instituted but a quick Google didn't bear fruit.]
I THINK IT IS CRAZY.
What I worry about most are TIRES & brakes -- especially in the winter. Even with good tires winter in NH can be treacherous. I hate to think what we are going to see.
They are already saying more accidents will happen!
That is what really got me curious. I kind of thought that MOST states required annual inspections. Yes, I had heard that it was NOT mandatory in ALL states, but I kind of assumed that it was a requirement in most.
I am shocked. Just 13 states, & 11 are on the Eastern seaboard. Must be a reason.
I can now see the rationale of NH lawmakers.
But it doesn't make it right. But now I at least have some context & perspective.
Still does NOT make it right.
This does not make me happy. It makes me very worried.
