The 1st of these was the creation of the Sieur de Monts National MONUMENT on July 8, 1916.
A National Monument, then (and even today), could be created purely via a Presidential Proclamation without Congressional approval or involvement. That is exactly what happened. President Woodrow Wilson established, per his volition, without requiring Congress to get involved.
It was the 33rd National Monument to be established per the 1906 Antiquities Act.
It consisted of 5,120 acres.
It was the 9th largest of the then 29 National Monuments.
It was the 1st National Monument east of the Mississippi.
It was the 2nd
National Monument consisting of land donated to the U.S. Government.
It got UPGRADED to the 'Lafayette National Park' in 1919.
Then, 10 years later, it became 'Acadia'.
Got that?
