The 'S&P 500' -- with 500 companies -- is, of course, a large (diverse) INDEX. That is what it is meant to be -- though it is supposed to be a good reflection of the overall STOCK MARKET.
I KNOW that I don't know the names of all 500 companies in the INDEX! [I tend to be GOOD at knowing the things that I don't know. 😇]
I probably can have a guess at 25 of the companies out of the 500. That is NOT very good.
Thus, I am NOT sure why I got surprised this morning when I heard that AppLovin was going to be included in the Index -- replacing a company that I had never heard of.
Yes, I had heard of AppLovin & was vaguely familiar with it.
I, however, had thought that it was a fairly new company. Until I looked it up I, therefore, had no idea that it was founded way back in 2012. So, it is a mature company. That is good.
I only started hearing about Applovin last Fall -- when it suddenly became a media darling.
That is when the stock started shooting up. It had remained flat, as of its IPO, prior to that.
Nothing wrong with it being included in the Index. It just caught me by surprise.
That 'Robinhood' was being considered for inclusion I had heard about for weeks. Plus, that was a company I had known about since its IPO quite a few years ago.
So nothing profound here ....
Just letting you know of something I found 'interesting' -- today.
Were YOU familiar with Applovin? IF SO, good on ya.
Interesting to see how it will fare now it has got the respectability of being in THE INDEX.
😇
