The image (left, above) appeared on my 'Facebook' timeline a couple of days ago.
That Buddhist artists always depict the 'Buddha' (who was past 35) as youthful & effeminate no longer gets under my skin. It is only fair given that Christian artists insist on depicting Christ as European.
But, the TOUCAN was something else.
I kind of knew that toucans weren't native to India. But, I looked it up. I was right.
NO toucans in India during the time of Buddha.
IF there are toucans in India now, they must be ones that were brought across by Europeans during colonial times.
Just struck me as funny.
NO, NO Sri Lankan Buddhist will spot this. SMILE.
That is OK. They need whatever diversions that they can get.
