I ONLY heard about it today -- today being when it passed Parliament. Still needs to be signed into Law by the King -- but that is a formality (especially given that he was never a fan of smoking).
The U.K. can enact such a Law because they provide FREE HEALTHCARE, i.e., the (infamous) NHS (National Health System). Smoking costs the NHS a ton, so banning it helps curb National expenditure. This is the rationale & justification.
That said, this, at face value, looks very unBritish -- given the emphasis on personal rights.
So, I had to have a QUICK look.
Hilarious. VERY BRITISH.
No penalties, ever or whatsoever, for an individual.
Enforcement & Penalties are for SELLERS.
Bingo! Very British. Preserve Individual RIGHTS.
I love it. I love it.
Yes, it will CURB smoking & vaping to an extent -- BUT it is NOT a FULL BAN.
Oh, so British. I love it.
