| Wikipedia link for 'Plantation'. |
I have known for awhile that lovely 'Monhegan Island' is a Maine Plantation -- one of 29 in Maine. That limits what it can enforce in terms of ordinances & regulations on the Island. I just got back from another trip to Monhegan -- my 2nd in 9 months (for a total of 5 days).
Traffic in Monhegan continues to grow. More trucks now than September of last year. And then the golf carts. Wow. Everybody seems to have one -- not counting the 'Cab Service'.
Yes, many of the residents are older -- & (for whatever reason) they are not getting younger. So they are getting golf carts to get about. I understand. But ...
I think Monhegan will come to rue being a Plantation. They need more self-government.
I don't think it can carry on like this forever. There will be a tipping point.
