Mount Everest This Year (i.e., 2026) Was A Circus. Finally, Some Who Profit From The Craziness Are Asking For Change.

I was expressing my concerns & distaste a month ago. Even then it was obvious that things had got untenable.

Record crowds, record summits, & record piles of garbage on the sacred mountain. There were at least 2 known deaths -- not counting the sherpa who was abandoned near the summit for 6 days.

It is all to do with filthy lucre.

Yes, Nepal & the Sherpas need the money. So, glad to see that the Sherpas are SEEKING restraint & reform.

I don't see the GLORY of claiming you summited Everest given how the whole experience has been commercialized, commoditized and cheapened.

It is like someone who wants to publish a book. But, rather than doing the work they hire a ghostwriter. To me, as a writer, that is what summiting Everest today looks like. Cheating. Not the REAL THING anymore. It is an insult for those who climbed it, the PROPER WAY, pre-1990s.

Yes, I will continue to monitor how this pans out. I, however, don't hold much hope. Nepal is GREEDY. They will MILK Everest DRY. 😟
