Amazon's 'Kindle Direct Publishing' (KDP) -- A New Wrinkle With eBooks Linked To 'Virtual Voice' Audiobooks.

OK, I have close to 40 titles PUBLISHE & LIVE on Amazon/KDP -- in all formats. So, trust me when I say I that I do know my way around KDP -- though I will never claim to be an expert because I try NOT to spend too much time on KDP. In-and-out, QUICK. Bang. Bang. But, I have now been using KDP for well over 20 years. So, I am not a novice.

This wrinkle seems to have appeared since this Summer.

It is SPECIFIC to Kindle eBooks that have a Virtual Voice (i.e., AI generate) Audiobook associated with them.

What is the issue. Unless you tell KDP beforehand, WHEN you update the eBook KDP thinks it also has to update the Audiobook. That, of course, makes sense -- though not necessarily IF you are just fixing minor typos, e.g., 'pond' for 'pound'.

Generating an Audiobook takes resources & hence time. KDP has to do it rather than YOU.

So, updating Audiobook is not as trivial as updating a new Word file.

Twice, since September, a trivial update to my eBook has caused both my eBook & Audiobook to go into an infinite Update look.

The old version of the eBook is still LIVE -- but update is never ending.

The Audiobook gets UNPUBLISHED.

KDP knows about this ...

Just giving you a HEADS UP.

I unlinked the paperback from eBook & then UNPUBLISHED eBook. When it was delisted, I archived the eBook & published AGAIN. See image above.
