What Name Will 'Cardinal Luis Tagle' Assume When He Becomes The Next Pope? Pope Francis II? Pope Lorenzo? Pope Joseph?

He (now 67) is still too young, but after the December 2024 cardinal-creating consistory all bets are off. The Francis camp now has enough votes to do whatever they want, and Tagle is their man -- & the current (hospitalized) pope's anointed. That is why I have stopped saying NO to Tagle. They have the votes, more than enough, to elect him. It would be good. The first true Asian (as opposed from the middle-east, like Jesus). Also young. Wow. Would be like the days of the two 'John Pauls'. That was nearly 50 years ago. So, if/when pope, what name will Tagle assume. Appears he is partial to both 'Francis of Assisi' & 'Francis Xavier'. Plus he is Pope Francis' chief acolyte. He would also be continuing the Francis doctrine of reform. So, Francis II makes a lot of sense. The Francis camp and the Catholics that like Pope Francis will much appreciate it. Then there is 'Lorenzo Ruiz' -- the patron Saint of the Philippines and just one of only two Filipino Saints. I don't think Pope Ruiz cuts it, but Pope Lorenzo sure has a ring to it. Tagle also venerates St. Joseph. That would be a longshot. What do YOU think? 😇 |
I understand that Tagle had in the past wrote and or preached in defence of Pope Paul VI,hence Paul VII a possibility,just saying.
ReplyDeleteFrancis would be conceivable, but should he stick to ‘traditional’ papal names, he could perhaps call himself John XXIV. It is said that Jorge Mario Bergoglio originally intended to choose this name.
