Wishing YOU ALL A Happy 'OLD YEAR' -- The Day Before The Sinhalese New Year (Usually On April 14).

To be honest, these days (& in reality for decades now) I don't really get to celebrate the Sinhalese New Year -- other than in my mind & spirit (mainly in the form of fond remembrance) given that I do not really associate with any Sri Lankans (living in the woods in New Hampshire).

During my 13 years in Ceylon (& it definitely wasn't Sri Lanka then) we did celebrate BOTH Sinhalese Old Year & New Year (usually April 13 & 14) with gusto. It was non-stop, 48-hours. April 13 happened to be my maternal grandmother's birthday & she was the all powerful matriarch of a very powerful family. So, Old Year was full of folks coming to see her for her birthday & the obligatory afternoon/evening party. That would get us all primed for New Year the next day -- though ours was a strictly tea-total household!

Well, let me TODAY, wish you HAPPY OLD YEAR.

Cheers,
Anura  😇
