These (& there were 4 slippers) came into bloom last week. But, I wasn't here to monitor their progress -- & as I am usually wont to do. I was goofing of in 'Acadia'.
So, I cannot, as I have done in past years, make any statements as to whether they were early, late or just about right.
I went back & checked some dates. Late May seems right for them to be in luscious bloom such as this, i.e., in their full glory.
So it would appear they came up per the normal schedule -- despite the erratic, cold and wet spring we have had in 2025.
This batch/crop has been in this same place, a steep bank along the side of a dirt road, for the last 8 years (or more). A couple of years ago they didn't make an appearance because the power company had 'hog cleared' that bank. But they came back strong the following year.
I will be taking more pictures of them in the coming weeks. I am rather partial to OUR slippers.
