In time it will become the Primary Visitor Center for Acadia taking the place of today's 'Hulls Cove Visitor Center'.
IF NPS has its way, it will encourage(/force) more and more people to use the FREE 'Island Explorer' bus service, from this Gateway, to reduce vehicle congestion in the Park. Over time they might force the issue by implementing a strict, restrictive RESERVATION SYSTEM (similar to what we have now for 'Cadillac Mountain') to enter the Park during the Summer.
The Bus Service is likely to also be expanded.
I have known of this Gateway for a few years now.
I have been stopping by it every time I pass.
It was SUPPOSED to open in May 2025, just ahead of the 2025 Summer season.
When I visited (photo above) at the end of April I realized that that might be quite a stretch.
Then it was going to be June.
Now it is the end of July. That might actually happen.
In a way, that is not bad. The NPS will have all of August as a kind of 'soft opening' for 2026.
I am NOT planning to visit Acadia again until the last week in October. But, I have already visited 3 times this year.
I will keep you posted.
😇
