I have had a Fiber service from TDS (& it's precursor 'Union Tel') since I moved into this house 18 years. We were the first to get Fiber to the house.
I was also one of the first to sign-up for 1Gig service as soon as it became available. That was way back in 2017!
8-years later we still only have 1Gig.
TDS offers 5Gig in other markets.
Today, I found out ONE major reason why TDS is holding back on offering faster service.
In New Hampshire TDS had use Cat 5 cable from the 'Fiber Modem' to the wall jack.
Cat 5 only supports 1Gig speeds.
IF they offered higher speeds they would have to ALSO replace all that Cat 5 cables. Can be done. Not technical. Just COSTLY & time consuming.
Now we all know.
