This was the 2nd Mi'kmaq Mawiomi I have attended -- given that I went to it last year too. That was their 30th & the opening of their GRAND tribal meeting hall/lodge. I had so much fun last year that I made a point of going again this year. 400 miles each way -- but well worth it. IF I can I will go again next year too.
Yes, I was a Flag Carrier last year & this year too. That was SPECIAL & I am humbled.
The Mi'kmaq as I said in this post are the NICEST Native Indians in New England -- that I have had a chance to meet.
Yes, I have spent a LOT of time with the 'Navajo' starting in 1980. They have a SPECIAL PLACE in my heart. But, of late I am getting equally fond of the Mi'kmaq though I haven't really spent that much time with them.
I have been to about 10 (maybe slightly more) Pow-Wows in New Hampshire & Maine. That is NOT that many, but it also means I am not a virgin when it comes to Pow-Wows.
From some research I did last year, the Mi'kmaq Mawiomi appears to the OLDEST in New England.
It is NOT the LARGEST or fanciest I have been to. That would be 'Passamaquoddy Days'. Yes, BIG, many, many more events going way into the night including fireworks. But, it is NOT intimate. Quite commercialized and feels like you are at a circus or Fair.
Not so the Mawiomi.
Very intimate. Genuine tribal/family event. Everybody so welcoming. So inclusive.
I have NOTHING but good things to say.
