'Monhegan Island’, Maine Has A ZERO Major Crime Rate Going Back 100-Years! Wow. How Is That Possible?
Doing the post last week about it still being a 'PLANTATION' (after my latest visit) got me thinking -- especially because I met, socially, the island's one CONSTABLE. Being a plantation the Constable has limited powers & duties. Major crimes are handled by the "Lincoln County Sheriff's Department" on the mainland -- an hour away by boat.
So, that is what got me looking at what major crimes there have been in Monhegan.
NO MURDERS going back to 1900. Yes, at least 2 young ladies have gone missing/drowned over the years, BUT none of them have been classed murder. Hhhmmm.
NO REPORTED RAPES (or similar). That surprised me. Of late they are saying that 1-in-5 adult Maine females claim that they have been the victim of some kind of serious sexual 'attempt'. But, nothing in Monhegan? Why do I find that 'interesting'?
Because Monhegan hires hundreds of 'youngsters', of both sexes, to come & work on the island during the Summer. Lot of kids from different backgrounds, different places, etc. Forced together in close proximity. NOTHING? That is GOOD, but ...
I don't know. YOU can look it up if YOU are curious too. This is about as far as I am going with this now. I really have too many other irons in the fire.
PAX. 😇
