From my 'The Conclave' book.  < > < > < > < > < > I have not been following papal news since last Fall. But, I feel compelled & obliged to go on 'Next Pope Watch' given that I have done 'it' (i.e., The Watch) since 2010. I know that there are still some who expect me to do my 'job' -- if not duty. So I am trying to oblige. 😇 I can't see any new 'edicts' -- related to conclaves or otherwise. It is possible that some might be in the works as we speak. But, as of now, there are NO CHANGES as of the 2013 Conclave, i.e., the one in which this pope was elected. The 120 cardinal-elector limit does NOT appear to have been changed. That could become a problem. But, lets wait and see. That the pope, on January 7, 2025, extended 91-year old Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re's term as the Dean of the College of Cardinals by another 5-years is not really such a big deal. It was the path of least resistance to a tired and ailing pope. Re is a non-elector. So he will not be in the conclave -- as he was in 2013. Yes, he will head all the events prior to the conclave but his influence as Dean is unlikely to play any major role in who gets elected. My money is on 'Tagle'. Yes, I am ON WATCH & will keep you posted. Rest assured. 😇 |
