At Kensington High School, 1967-1968. Can you spot me? < > < > < > < > < > I joined 'IBM', in the UK, in 'Hursley', in 1971. Hursley was an IBM Research Laboratory, the LARGEST outside of the U.S. We had two sister labs in the U.S., BOTH in Upstate New York, 'Poughkeepsie' & 'Kingston'. I visited these labs at least twice -- once in 1976. I remember that because it was the year of the U.S. Bicentennial. I was 23 at the time. We were NOT sure whether I could rent a car! I could, because IBM had a Corporate Account with 'Avis'. This time last year I decided to go back to Poughkeepsie. Much had changed in the 48 years. IBM still had a large complex, BUT it wasn't the one I had visited. I stayed just around the corner from that complex. Had a blast on that trip. Really liked Poughkeepsie. REAL COOL PLACE -- but a tad too busy for my liking. Nonetheless, I went back the following month. Had a ball again. In September I decided to go back again -- but this time a tad further north. Ended up going to the 'Lake Placid'/'Lake Saranac' area. WOW. I was so impressed. I am going back again this year. This time every March, since 2020, I go on an ambling trip to CELEBRATE the busting of my knee in 2019 -- & the operation on March 8 that transformed my life. 2021 to 2023 I went to the 'Bold Coast', Maine. That is how I ended up writing 5 books on the Bold Coast. Last year, to break up things, I went to Poughkeepsie. Doing the same this year. 😇 |
