I heard about this survey on 'BBC Radio', this morning, during my daily immersion to world news from London. [It is truly difficult to get comprehensive world news from U.S. outlets. Hence my reliance, as it has been much of my life, on the BBC.]

The BBC's short report didn't go into too much detail. They definitely omitted to mention that it was a coordinated, 5-minute survey. That is quite logical. Makes sense. Could even work.

The way the BBC made it sound, villagers were given a questionnaire as to how many animals they see and that they had to return it. That made me raise my eyebrows. I couldn't see how that was going to help.

But, a coordinated, 5-minute count, across the Island, makes sense. It will provide some decent results. I am impressed.

Though elephants are mentioned, I know that the 'authorities' have done separate, specific elephant censuses. But the numbers they get today, if elephants are mentioned, will allow them to check/refine the numbers they already have.

In a few weeks I will go looking to see if I can find the results of this 5-minute survey. I will, of course, share them with you. 😇
