Four-years ago I was ignorant when it came to autism & ASD. Well that has changed BIG TIME. My youngest, the apple of my eye, was diagnosed with ASD when she was 15. I only have ONE gripe about. I wish she was diagnosed earlier. We could have helped her so much better if we knew. I feel GUILTY. That is the only regret. Though she sometimes thinks otherwise (& even says so), I have no issues with her having ASD. I am totally cool with it. In some ways it makes her even CUTER and she was very cute to begin with.
So, now I have a HUGE HOTSPOT for any & all with ASD.
I started volunteering for 'Special Olympics'. I have got to meet some very special kids. Most rewarding of volunteering EVER -- hands down.
I am trying to educate myself, more & more, about ASD. There is so much to it.
I now (I think) can see ASD traits in kids & ADULTS. The adults kind of 'bother' me because some of them have no idea. They, like my daughter, probably went undiagnosed.
Yes, it is very TRUE. We are diagnosing ASD at a higher rate than ever before.
I do NOT think there is more ASD now than there was 30 years ago. We have got better at diagnosing it.
April is 'Autism Acceptance Month'.
Yes, I appreciate that some have some difficulty accepting autism. Well this is a good opportunity to make that history.
There is nothing wrong with autism. I can attest to that. We can all be happy with autism. I know I am. 😇
