I head about this, i.e., radioactive rhino horns, on 'BBC News', a couple of nights ago. I invariably learn something useful & interesting from my daily stints of listening to BBC radio in the morning (during my daily amble) & at night.
This was wild. I like rhinos. Never seen one in the wild, just at zoos.
Not convinced that this is going to be THAT effective.
The poachers have to UNDERSTAND & APPRECIATE that the horns are radioactive ...
Plus, the stupid Asian punters (who buy powdered horns rather than cough up for 'Viagra') need to be AFRAID that they might be ingesting something radioactive ...
So, TWO HUGE IFs right there.
But, the South African authorities are pointing out that the radioactivity will HELP them DETECT horns that are trying to be smuggled. To me that is TOO LATE.
But, at least somebody is trying something.
Poaching is a HUGE problem in Africa.
Well, I wanted you to know. I will try to get updates. Cheers.
