Sri Lanka Was A Major Beneficiary Of USAID -- & That Was A Waste! Better Spent In New England.

I remember as a kid, growing up in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), in the 1960s, USAID. It was a big deal. There was always quite a bit of hoopla. We were grateful those days. We needed the aid. But that was nearly 60 years ago. Things are different.

As a 'UN brat' (i.e., my adoptive/accidental father worked for UNESCO for 17 years) I am no stranger to aid organizations and the level of 'waste' involved. That is why I am kind of glad that USAID is being curtailed -- if not totally gutted.

I knew that Sri Lanka has continued to benefit from USAID. That is crazy. That is unnecessary. That is a WASTE.

From what I can see on TV (when I watch cricket matches from there) & on social media, folks there (particularly in the 'Colombo' area) live a very extravagant, opulent, indulgent lifestyle. They are NOT POOR. This is the over-the-top Asian Rich. They live much better than most in the Northeast & that I mean New Hampshire & Maine. They don't need the money. We do. We have tons of homeless, poor schools & kids without enough to eat.

The money sent to Sri Lanka will be mainly pocketed by the corrupt bureaucracy. They are all on the make, top to bottom. You are lucky if 1% of the aid actually ends up helping the needy.

So, putting an end to the WASTE and fraud of USAID is a GOOD THING.

Much needed. I am happy.

It should not be a knee jerk reaction. Check the facts.
